Chapter 2 • Verse 4

अर्जुन उवाच। कथं भीष्ममहं सङ्ख्ये द्रोणं च मधुसूदन। इषुभिः प्रतियोत्स्यामि पूजार्हावरिसूदन॥

arjuna uvācha kathaṁ bhīṣhmam ahaṁ saṅkhye droṇaṁ cha madhusūdana iṣhubhiḥ pratiyotsyāmi pūjārhāv ari-sūdana

Meaning

Arjuna said: O Madhusudana, how can I fight with arrows against Bhishma and Drona in battle? They are worthy of my worship, O destroyer of enemies.

Arjuna's question reveals the complexity of life - sometimes we must oppose those we respect. Respect for elders doesn't mean following them into adharma.

Strength Reflection

"I can honor and respect people while still standing firm against their wrong actions."

Devotional Surrender

Lord, give me wisdom to honor what deserves honor while opposing what must be opposed.
