Chapter 2 • Verse 43
कामात्मानः स्वर्गपरा जन्मकर्मफलप्रदाम्। क्रियाविशेषबहुलां भोगैश्वर्यगतिं प्रति॥
kāmātmānaḥ svarga-parā janma-karma-phala-pradām kriyā-viśheṣha-bahulāṁ bhogaiśhwarya-gatiṁ prati
Meaning
Full of desires and aiming at heaven, they prescribe numerous rituals for obtaining enjoyment and opulence, leading to rebirth as the result of actions.
Desire-driven religion seeks material rewards, even heavenly ones. This keeps the soul in bondage. True spirituality aims for liberation, not just better conditions of bondage.
