Chapter 1 • Verse 40
कुलक्षये प्रणश्यन्ति कुलधर्माः सनातनाः। धर्मे नष्टे कुलं कृत्स्नमधर्मोऽभिभवत्युत॥
kula-kṣhaye praṇaśhyanti kula-dharmāḥ sanātanāḥ dharme naṣhṭe kulaṁ kṛitsnam adharmo 'bhibhavaty uta
Meaning
In the destruction of the family, the eternal family traditions perish. When dharma is lost, adharma overwhelms the entire family.
Arjuna argues that war destroys tradition and dharma. Yet he ignores that the Kauravas have already destroyed dharma. Sometimes war is the medicine, not the disease.
