Chapter 6 • Verse 23

तं विद्याद्दुःखसंयोगवियोगं योगसंज्ञितम्। स निश्चयेन योक्तव्यो योगोऽनिर्विण्णचेतसा॥

taṁ vidyād duḥkha-saṁyoga-viyogaṁ yoga-saṁjñitam sa niśhchayena yoktavyo yogo 'nirviṇṇa-chetasā

Meaning

Know that this disconnection from union with sorrow is called yoga. This yoga should be practiced with determination and an unwearied mind.

Here's a powerful definition: yoga is the severing of connection with sorrow. Not escaping life's difficulties but breaking the inner bond that makes difficulties become suffering. This requires determination and persistence — you can't give up when practice gets hard. An 'unwearied mind' keeps going despite obstacles.

Strength Reflection

"I practice yoga with determination, knowing that persistence breaks my bond with sorrow."

Devotional Surrender

O Krishna, give me the tireless spirit to practice until sorrow loses its grip on me.
