यथा दीपो निवातस्थो नेङ्गते सोपमा स्मृता। योगिनो यतचित्तस्य युञ्जतो योगमात्मनः॥
yathā dīpo nivāta-stho neṅgate sopamā smṛitā yogino yata-chittasya yuñjato yogam ātmanaḥ
Meaning
As a lamp in a windless place does not flicker — this is the simile used for the yogi of controlled mind practicing union with the Self.
This beautiful image captures the quality of a concentrated mind. Like a candle flame that burns steady without wind, the trained mind becomes unwavering. External circumstances (the winds of life) no longer cause flickering disturbance. This steadiness allows the light of awareness to illuminate clearly.
Strength Reflection
"I cultivate a mind as steady as a flame in a windless place."
Devotional Surrender
O Lord, shelter my mind from the winds of disturbance so it may shine steadily for You.
