Chapter 6 • Verse 16

नात्यश्नतस्तु योगोऽस्ति न चैकान्तमनश्नतः। न चातिस्वप्नशीलस्य जाग्रतो नैव चार्जुन॥

nātyaśhnatas tu yogo 'sti na chaikāntam anaśhnataḥ na chāti-svapna-śhīlasya jāgrato naiva chārjuna

Meaning

O Arjuna, yoga is not for one who eats too much or too little, nor for one who sleeps too much or too little.

Krishna emphasizes the Middle Way. Extremes of indulgence or asceticism both obstruct yoga. Overeating makes the mind dull; under-eating weakens the body. Too much sleep breeds lethargy; too little causes exhaustion. Balance in basic habits creates the stable foundation needed for spiritual practice.

Strength Reflection

"I practice moderation in eating and sleeping, avoiding extremes that disturb my balance."

Devotional Surrender

Lord, guide me to the middle path where body and mind are optimally prepared for You.
