Chapter 3 • Verse 37

श्रीभगवानुवाच। काम एष क्रोध एष रजोगुणसमुद्भवः। महाशनो महापाप्मा विद्ध्येनमिह वैरिणम्॥

śhrī bhagavān uvācha kāma eṣha krodha eṣha rajo-guṇa-samudbhavaḥ mahāśhano mahā-pāpmā viddhy enam iha vairiṇam

Meaning

The Supreme Lord said: It is desire, it is anger, born of the mode of passion. It is all-devouring and the greatest sin. Know this as the enemy here.

Krishna identifies the enemy: desire and its offspring, anger. They come from rajas (passion) and are insatiable and sinful. Knowing your enemy is the first step to victory.

Strength Reflection

"I identify desire and anger as my inner enemies and resolve to overcome them."

Devotional Surrender

Lord, help me conquer the enemies of desire and anger that dwell within me.
