Chapter 3 • Verse 36

अर्जुन उवाच। अथ केन प्रयुक्तोऽयं पापं चरति पूरुषः। अनिच्छन्नपि वार्ष्णेय बलादिव नियोजितः॥

arjuna uvācha atha kena prayukto 'yaṁ pāpaṁ charati pūruṣhaḥ anichchhann api vārṣhṇeya balād iva niyojitaḥ

Meaning

Arjuna said: O descendant of Vrishni, what compels a person to commit sin, even against their will, as if driven by force?

Arjuna asks the crucial question: why do we do wrong even when we don't want to? What force compels us against our better judgment? This begins the exploration of inner enemies.

Strength Reflection

"I examine the forces that compel me toward actions against my values."

Devotional Surrender

O Lord, reveal to me what forces compel me to act against my true nature.
