Chapter 4 • Verse 13
चातुर्वर्ण्यं मया सृष्टं गुणकर्मविभागशः। तस्य कर्तारमपि मां विद्ध्यकर्तारमव्ययम्॥
chātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛiṣhṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśhaḥ tasya kartāram api māṁ viddhy akartāram avyayam
Meaning
The four divisions of human society were created by Me according to differences in qualities and activities. Know that though I am the creator, I am the non-doer and eternal.
Social divisions are based on qualities and work, not birth. The Divine creates but remains uninvolved in the drama. Action and non-action coexist in the Divine.
