Chapter 3 • Verse 39

आवृतं ज्ञानमेतेन ज्ञानिनो नित्यवैरिणा। कामरूपेण कौन्तेय दुष्पूरेणानलेन च॥

āvṛitaṁ jñānam etena jñānino nitya-vairiṇā kāma-rūpeṇa kaunteya duṣhpūreṇānalena cha

Meaning

O son of Kunti, knowledge is covered by this eternal enemy of the wise, taking the form of desire, which is as insatiable as fire.

Desire is the eternal enemy of the wise - never satisfied, always burning. Like fire that consumes more fuel and grows larger, desire fed grows rather than diminishes.

Strength Reflection

"I recognize that feeding desire only makes it grow. I practice restraint."

Devotional Surrender

O Kaunteya's Lord, extinguish the fire of insatiable desire within me.
