Chapter 2 • Verse 22
वासांसि जीर्णानि यथा विहाय नवानि गृह्णाति नरोऽपराणि। तथा शरीराणि विहाय जीर्णान्यन्यानि संयाति नवानि देही॥
vāsānsi jīrṇāni yathā vihāya navāni gṛihṇāti naro 'parāṇi tathā śharīrāṇi vihāya jīrṇāny anyāni saṁyāti navāni dehī
Meaning
Just as a person discards worn-out clothes and puts on new ones, so the soul discards worn-out bodies and enters new ones.
Death is like changing clothes. The soul simply moves from an old body to a new one. This beautiful metaphor makes death less fearsome - it's a transition, not an ending.
Strength Reflection
"Death is merely a change of garments for the eternal soul. I release fear of this natural transition."
Devotional Surrender
O Krishna, when this body is worn out, grant me a new form suitable for continued service to You.
