Chapter 18 • Verse 9

कार्यमित्येव यत्कर्म नियतं क्रियतेऽर्जुन। सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा फलं चैव स त्यागः सात्त्विको मतः॥

kāryam ity eva yat karma niyataṁ kriyate 'rjuna saṅgaṁ tyaktvā phalaṁ chaiva sa tyāgaḥ sāttviko mataḥ

Meaning

When obligatory action is performed merely because it ought to be done, O Arjuna, giving up attachment and fruit — that renunciation is considered sattvic.

Sattvic renunciation: performing duty because it should be done, while giving up attachment and desire for results. The action is done; the attachment is released. This is true, pure renunciation.

Strength Reflection

"I perform duty because it should be done, free from attachment to results."

Devotional Surrender

O Lord, let my renunciation be sattvic — duty with detachment.
