Chapter 16 • Verse 21
त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मनः। कामः क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत्त्रयं त्यजेत्॥
tri-vidhaṁ narakasyedaṁ dvāraṁ nāśhanam ātmanaḥ kāmaḥ krodhas tathā lobhas tasmād etat trayaṁ tyajet
Meaning
Three are the gates to this hell, destructive of the self: desire, anger, and greed. Therefore, one should abandon these three.
Three gates lead to hell and self-destruction: desire (kama), anger (krodha), and greed (lobha). These three must be abandoned. They are the root causes of demoniac nature and spiritual downfall.
