अपरेयमितस्त्वन्यां प्रकृतिं विद्धि मे पराम्। जीवभूतां महाबाहो ययेदं धार्यते जगत्॥
apareyam itas tv anyāṁ prakṛitiṁ viddhi me parām jīva-bhūtāṁ mahā-bāho yayedaṁ dhāryate jagat
Meaning
But beyond this lower nature, O mighty-armed Arjuna, know My higher nature — the living beings (consciousness) by which this entire universe is sustained.
Here Krishna reveals the crucial distinction: beyond material nature is the spiritual nature — consciousness itself, the living principle in all beings. This higher prakriti sustains the world. You are not just body-mind (lower nature) but also this conscious presence (higher nature). Knowing this changes everything about how you see yourself.
