Chapter 18 • Verse 25

अनुबन्धं क्षयं हिंसामनपेक्ष्य च पौरुषम्। मोहादारभ्यते कर्म यत्तत्तामसमुच्यते॥

anubandhaṁ kṣhayaṁ hiṁsām anapekṣhya cha pauruṣham mohād ārabhyate karma yat tat tāmasam uchyate

Meaning

That action which is begun from delusion, disregarding consequences, loss, harm, and one's own capacity — that is called tamasic.

Tamasic action ignores consequences, potential loss, harm to others, and one's own ability. It's done from delusion — without thinking. Reckless, harmful, thoughtless action is the worst kind.

Strength Reflection

"I consider consequences, harm, and my capacity before acting — not from delusion."

Devotional Surrender

O Lord, protect me from deluded action that ignores harm and consequences.
