Chapter 16 • Verse 12

आशापाशशतैर्बद्धाः कामक्रोधपरायणाः। ईहन्ते कामभोगार्थमन्यायेनार्थसञ्चयान्॥

āśhā-pāśha-śhatair baddhāḥ kāma-krodha-parāyaṇāḥ īhante kāma-bhogārtham anyāyenārtha-sañchayān

Meaning

...bound by hundreds of cords of hope, given over to desire and anger, they strive to amass wealth by unjust means for the gratification of desires.

Bound by countless hopes and expectations, driven by desire and anger, the demoniac strive to accumulate wealth through any means — even unjust ones — all for sense enjoyment. This is spiritual bondage.

Strength Reflection

"I seek wealth through just means, not driven by endless desire and anger."

Devotional Surrender

O Lord, free me from the bondage of excessive hopes, desires, and anger.
