Chapter 13 • Verse 22
पुरुषः प्रकृतिस्थो हि भुङ्क्ते प्रकृतिजान्गुणान्। कारणं गुणसङ्गोऽस्य सदसद्योनिजन्मसु॥
puruṣhaḥ prakṛiti-stho hi bhuṅkte prakṛiti-jān guṇān kāraṇaṁ guṇa-saṅgo 'sya sad-asad-yoni-janmasu
Meaning
The Purusha, seated in Prakriti, experiences the qualities born of Prakriti. Attachment to these qualities is the cause of birth in good and evil wombs.
When the soul identifies with the body, it experiences nature's qualities as its own. This attachment to qualities causes rebirth — in good or evil circumstances based on karma. Identification is the root of bondage.
