Chapter 18 • Verse 49

असक्तबुद्धिः सर्वत्र जितात्मा विगतस्पृहः। नैष्कर्म्यसिद्धिं परमां संन्यासेनाधिगच्छति॥

asakta-buddhiḥ sarvatra jitātmā vigata-spṛihaḥ naiṣhkarmya-siddhiṁ paramāṁ sannyāsenādhigachchhati

Meaning

One whose intellect is unattached everywhere, who has conquered the self and is free from desire — attains the supreme state of freedom from action through renunciation.

With unattached intellect, self-mastery, and freedom from desire, one attains the supreme actionlessness (naishkarmya) through inner renunciation. Actions happen but don't bind — this is freedom while still active.

Strength Reflection

"Through detachment, self-mastery, and desirelessness, I attain freedom from karma."

Devotional Surrender

O Lord, grant me the supreme freedom from action's bondage.
