Chapter 18 • Verse 34
यया तु धर्मकामार्थान्धृत्या धारयतेऽर्जुन। प्रसङ्गेन फलाकाङ्क्षी धृतिः सा पार्थ राजसी॥
yayā tu dharma-kāmārthān dhṛityā dhārayate 'rjuna prasaṅgena phalākāṅkṣhī dhṛitiḥ sā pārtha rājasī
Meaning
But the steadiness by which one holds to dharma, desire, and wealth, craving their fruits with attachment — that steadiness, O Partha, is rajasic.
Rajasic determination pursues religious duty (dharma), pleasure (kama), and wealth (artha) while craving results and remaining attached. It has discipline but for worldly gains, not liberation.
