Chapter 17 • Verse 10
यातयामं गतरसं पूति पर्युषितं च यत्। उच्छिष्टमपि चामेध्यं भोजनं तामसप्रियम्॥
yāta-yāmaṁ gata-rasaṁ pūti paryuṣhitaṁ cha yat uchchhiṣhṭam api chāmedhyaṁ bhojanaṁ tāmasa-priyam
Meaning
Food that is stale, tasteless, putrid, leftover, and impure — such food is dear to the tamasic.
Tamasic foods are stale, flavorless, rotten, leftover (from another's plate), and unclean. Such food promotes dullness, disease, and impurity. Fresh, clean food is essential for spiritual and physical health.
Strength Reflection
"I avoid tamasic foods that are stale, rotten, or impure."
Devotional Surrender
O Lord, let me consume only what is fresh and pure.
