Chapter 14 • Verse 16
कर्मणः सुकृतस्याहुः सात्त्विकं निर्मलं फलम्। रजसस्तु फलं दुःखमज्ञानं तमसः फलम्॥
karmaṇaḥ sukṛitasyāhuḥ sāttvikaṁ nirmalaṁ phalam rajasas tu phalaṁ duḥkham ajñānaṁ tamasaḥ phalam
Meaning
The fruit of sattvic action is said to be pure; the fruit of rajas is pain; the fruit of tamas is ignorance.
Actions done in sattva yield pure, lasting results. Rajasic actions produce pain despite apparent success. Tamasic actions produce ignorance and confusion. The quality of the action determines the quality of the fruit.
Strength Reflection
"I perform sattvic actions for pure results, avoiding rajasic pain and tamasic ignorance."
Devotional Surrender
O Lord, let all my actions be sattvic, yielding pure and liberating fruits.
